Micah Sloat was a big part of the horror film that took the moviegoing world by storm like few films ever have, Paranormal Activity, which will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 29. I just got off the phone with Sloat, who was promoting the new DVD/BD release, and, of course, I had to ask what was going on with Paranormal Activity 2 as well. While I couldn’t get any story details out of him, Sloat did have some interesting things to say, like how they are determined to not make the film a cookie-cutter horror sequel....

The Cat In The Hat’s Mike Myers, coming off a spectacular weekend with Shrek the Third, has just signed onto the comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The film is a remake of an old Danny Kaye classic. According to Variety, it has moved from Paramount to 20th Century Fox. Jim Carrey was attached to the film for a very long time, and it once seemed as if the remake would never get made....

Morbius director Daniel Espinosa has explained why he believes Jared Leto is the only actor who could do justice to the titular character. As part of a new production release packet for Morbius courtesy of Sony, Espinosa heaped praise on the Academy Award-winning actor, and states that casting Leto in the lead role was not really a choice, “it was predestination.” Leto has become well-known for playing transformative roles, with the likes of the recent House of Gucci and his Academy Award-winning role in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club being perfect examples of this....

NBC has renewed its veteran drama series Las Vegas (Fridays, 9-10 p.m. ET) for a fifth high-rolling season through 2007-08, it was announced by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment. “The cast and producers have consistently given us what we want from ‘Las Vegas’ - pure entertainment - and we’re looking forward to another fun ride next season with the show,” said Reilly. While Anansi Boys is not a direct American Gods sequel, it does feature Mr. Nancy, the modern incarnation of West African trickster god Anansi, who in this story dies, leaving behind twin sons who have been separated for years but go on to discover each other’s existence in the world. The book was published in 2005, debuting on top of the New York Times’ Best Seller list and going on to win the Locus Award and British Fantasy Society Award....

On the first of the month, Netflix premiered an updated version of the legendary TV series with six all-new cases to explore. According to series co-creator and executive producer Terry Dunn Meurer, the popularity of the reboot has brought forth renewed attention to each of the cases along with about twenty “credible” leads....

There was a great disturbance in the Force recently when it seemed the Obi-Wan Kenobi show being produced for Disney+ was in danger of being sent to the garbage chute. Luckily, Ewan McGregor, who is set to reprise his role as the famed Jedi in the series, came in and set the record straight. Things have been delayed, yes, but not scrapped. However, the Star Wars project is in need of a new writer and it looks like a couple of people who helped make The Mandalorian such a success are on Lucasfilm’s radar for the job....

At an event at Warner Bros. recently it appears that Oliver Stone and Wolfgang Petersen have finally come to terms with their films Alexander and Troy. In a story from Home Media Magazine, Alexander: Revisited - The Final Cut is the last version of this release that Stone will put out (after already releasing numerous versions of this film on DVD), with this final version being on HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc....

Perhaps Disney Channel’s most popular cartoon to date, Phineas and Ferb, has been revived for two more seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Co-creator Dan Povenmire will return as showrunner and as the voice of Dr. Doofenschmirtz, the iconic “evil” scientist whose inventions, at worst, mildly inconvenience the residents of the tri-state area. Matt Reeves has received major public attention for directing The Batman, but he previously had directed several great films. Reeves was the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In, as well as two films in the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. With Project Runway in hand, Lifetime is expanding a diverse development slate that includes pilot orders for two scripted dramas and two scripted comedies. According to Variety, Harvey Weinstein told reporters he’s working with the network on Project Pygmalion, a reality series that could serve as a companion to Project Runway. The show will set up a contest among a group of average women; the winner will be made over by a panel of experts in a variety of fields to transform her into a person who would feel at home in the highest circles of New York society....
