For twelve seasons,The Big Bang Theory aired to record-breaking numbers on CBS. Mayim Bialik was a late entry into the series in the role of neuroscientist Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler but quickly endeared herself to fans. While the show ended a couple of years ago, it continues to enjoy immense popularity worldwide. A number of popular shows and movies have had virtual reunion episodes since last year’s global lockdown. But as Bialik explained in an interview with Insider, she feels The Big Bang Theoryis still too fresh in people’s minds for a reunion event....

Coming of age series Pen15 was a big hit on Hulu so there were many fans who were surprised when the series was cancelled after just two seasons. Although many of the show’s followers cited complications with COVID delaying filming as the main reason for the early end to the series, stars Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle explained that there was another reason for the show coming to an end, and it is seems more that there was never really a plan to continue after the second season, regardless of events going on in the world....

After a busy weekend at D23, fans of the Greek mythology-inspired Percy Jackson book series have news about the streaming adaptation coming to Disney+. Percy Jackson and the Olympians started filming this summer, despite negative reactions to some of the casting, and now audiences are waiting to find out when the show will be available to stream. To hold them over, Disney released a teaser that shows just how great the series will be compared to the previous film adaptations....

According to Variety, Peter Weir will direct Shantaram, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts novel that will star Johnny Depp. Weir will develop the script with Eric Roth. WB hopes to begin production late next year. The pic is being produced by Initial Entertainment Group’s Graham King along with Depp’s Infinitum Nihil banner and Plan B’s Brad Pitt. When negotiations are complete, Weir – who last directed Russell Crowe in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World – will take on a tale with the political and wartime tensions reminiscent of his early efforts like “The Year of Living Dangerously” and “Gallipoli....

You can watch a first look video of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a Bridgerton prequel series that explores the origin stories of the titular ruler. The show features India Amarteifio as a young Queen Charlotte and centers on her rise to prominence and power. The sneak peek clip was unveiled at the special fan event TUDUM and you can now watch it below. The show also features Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury), and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) reprising their roles from Bridgerton....

Randall Wallace is galloping over to Disney to direct Secretariat, a film about the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and its owner, Penny Chenery. Mike Rich wrote the screenplay. According to Variety, Disney acquired the rights to Chenery’s life story last year. The film is being produced by Mayhem Pictures partners Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray. Chenery was a mother and housewife who knew little about horses when she was pressed to take over her ailing father’s horse farm in Virginia....

The key, of course, for a longer season would have to be that the writing has to be good for additional episodes to be worth doing. Fortunately, the writers still have a great deal of source material for a season two. Although it’s not yet clear which book they will base a season two upon, it is clear that whichever book they do choose will give the writers plenty of source material to create an excellent season two....

Warner Bros. has joined forces with Atlas Entertainment to produce an adaptation of Mandrake the Magician, a project which has been in development at several different studios for many years. Lee Falk created the character in 1934 in comic strip form, which told the tale of an illusionist who was a powerful hypnotist. He uses his abilities to fight crime with Lothar, one of the strongest men in the world. Universal Pictures produced a 12-part serial based on the comic strip in 1939, but the character has not been seen on the big screen ever since....

Next year, CBS All Access and director Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars, The New Mutants) will be bringing us a new ten-episode limited series based on author Stephen King’s most popular novel The Stand. Armed with a killer cast, Boone’s upcoming take on the best-selling book is bound to blow us all away. And speaking of the killer cast, shock rocker Marilyn Manson is said to have a supporting role in the new limited series....

We reported here that Matthew Vaughn was taking a break on Thor in order to write and direct the film based on Mark Millar’s comic Kick-Ass. Speaking to Newsarama, the rising comic book star addressed those rumors. Millar said: I can’t confirm or deny any director at this stage. The Mark Millar comic book series Nemesis has been stuck in development Hell at Fox since the studio acquired the rights in August 2010. Last year, reports surfaced that Joe Carnahan and his brother, Matthew Michael Carnahan, were adapting Nemesis for Fox, although that seems to have fallen through. The highly-anticipated new animated series Marvel’s Spider-Man will debut with a one-hour premiere on Saturday, August 19 (7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. EDT) on Disney XD, and on the Disney XD App and VOD (12:01 a.m. EDT), it was announced today by Cort Lane, Senior Vice President, Animation & Family Entertainment and Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, during the Marvel Animation panel at D23 Expo in Anaheim. Marvel’s The Avengers has truly conquered the box office this summer, amassing a whopping $615 million at the domestic box office so far. Marvel Studios is also looking to possibly take this superhero team to the small screen, with an Avengers-themed TV show for ABC. The project is in very early stages at this point, with only, “a kernel of an idea” so far. It is said that there wouldn’t be a direct connection between the show and director Joss Whedon’s blockbuster....

Hendrix Yancey has recently finished her four-episode run on the Peacock miniseries A Friend of the Family. She played Jan Broberg, who gets kidnapped twice by a neighbor who had inserted themselves into the family by becoming their “friend.” Yancey played Jan in her childhood, while teen Jan is played by McKenna Grace, who usually plays the younger version of the main character.
