For the third year in a row, blood reigned supreme as Saw III, the highest-grossing theatrical horror film of 2006, followed in the footsteps of its predecessors by slicing through the competition to finish at number one among this week’s new home entertainment releases. Debuting on DVD and Blu-ray disc, the psychological thriller from Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), the premier independent filmed entertainment studio, and Twisted Pictures sold 1....

The Good This is one of those shows that was just meant to work. The Bad No extras. I think it would be very hard for someone in their early 30s and up to have not at least seen an episode of MAS*H. I have never really watched this show with any regularity, but I am very familiar with it and I am a huge fan of Alan Alda. There is something about his cadence and his tone of speech that I could listen to forever....

On January 6, M3GAN will hit theaters with a sci-fi horror story about technology gone wrong. The film depicts a life-like doll that plays the roles of friend, teacher, playmate, and protector for a young child. As she gets closer to the child she’s bonded to, M3GAN begins to exhibit aggressive, murderous instincts. The prequel to the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa, has begun filming. The project has been in active development since at least 2020. Chris Hemsworth confirmed the news today with a post on his Twitter account. The plot details read: “The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Mad Max in Fury Road.” The film will center on Charlize Theron’s character, Imperator Furiosa, albeit a bit younger....

Universal has picked up rights to Ricardo de Montreuil’s short film The Raven, which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Mark Wahlberg, who is also attached to produce, reports Heat Vision. Justin Marks will write the script. The Raven was part of the short film wave that hit Hollywood in the late winter and early spring when many up-and-coming filmmakers, with studio aspirations, released their own mini-movies in the hopes of catching a ride on the Hollywood comet....

ABC Studios has given Lost star Matthew Fox a raise in salary to continue his Jack Shephard role in the ABC drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, under the pact reached earlier this summer, Fox is expected to be earning about $225,000 per episode, up from the roughly $150,000 he most recently made. The raise puts Fox on par with the stars of Desperate Housewives, the other ABC/ABC Studios breakout hit of fall 2005....

In a licensing agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group’s Touchstone Television, McFarlane Toys will produce a series of action figures based on the hugely popular television drama, Lost. Slated to be in stores late fall, McFarlane Toys’ Lost Series 1 captures six compelling characters from the series’ first season: Jack, Kate, Hurley, Locke, Charlie and Shannon. Each 6-inch Lost action figure will come complete with a detailed base and photographic backdrop, capturing an episode-specific moment in the character’s story....

Warner Bros. has signed on Michael and Peter Spierig to direct and John Brownlow to write an updated version of Captain Blood, the 1935 swashbuckler pirate classic that starred Errol Flynn as a wrongly imprisoned British doctor who escapes to become a pirate in the Caribbean, according to Variety. The Spierig brothers got hired because of their innovative idea to set the pirate film in space. After WB and producer Bill Gerber dusted off the library title and had Brownlow do a faithful first draft, they sought out pitches from filmmakers....

Very sad news has come in as Mitchell Ryan has passed away. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Ryan, who has appeared in many familiar roles over the decades from Dark Shadows to Lethal Weapon to Dharma & Greg, died Friday of congetive heart failure at his Los Angeles home according to his stepdaughter, Denise Freed. He was 88 years old. Mitchell Ryan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Jan. 11, 1934....

NBC’s early 2000s TV show Monk, starring Tony Shalhoub as detective with OCD, is one of the best mystery series of today for its characters and various puzzles. No evidence gets past Detective Adrian Monk and as he puts the pieces together, we wonder if we’ll come to the same complex conclusion. According to executive producer David Hoberman, Monk began as a concept based on two other series. When Monk was first being developed by ABC, developers wanted to portray a character similar to Detective Clouseau and for this character to be played by Michael Richards of Seinfeld....

Robert Rodriguez’s Predators made a mighty big splash at the South by Southwest Film Festival last night in Austin Texas. 20th Century Fox debuted a special sneak preview of the film, which launched on their website shortly after. This all-new featurette, which contains behind the scenes footage as well as scenes from the film, was used to launch the official Predators website. Not only do you get a look at the film when you visit, there is also a photo gallery featuring a look at the new Predator Hound....

According to Variety Paramount Pictures and Joe Roth are partnering up to bring the Mattel action figure Max Steel to theaters.
