The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed today that it will be using the preferential voting system to determine which of the 10 contenders for its Best Picture award will receive the 2009 Oscar. The system has long been used in the round of voting which determines the nominees in most categories, but it has not been used on the final ballot for Best Picture since 1945. In June the Academy’s Board of Governors extended the Best Picture category from five to 10 nominees, which necessitated a change to the voting system for the category....

You can bring the 22nd James Bond adventure home in one of three different ways. Quantum of Solace has just been announced for DVD and Blu-ray on March 24. The film will be available in a single-disc edition ($24.98 SRP), a two-disc special edition ($34.98 SRP) and the Blu-ray edition ($39.98 SRP). Director Ridley Scott is currently in post-production on his highly-anticipated sci-fi drama Prometheus, which hits theaters June 8. The director recently spoke about Prometheus’ connection, or lack thereof, to his 1979 classic Alien. The filmmaker also talked about how the Space Jockey fits into the story of Prometheus, and how it was a story never told in the original Alien movies. “I mean, you could actually say, and there’s a quote I did, a pretty good quote: By the end of the third act you start to realize there’s a DNA of the very first Alien, but none of the subsequent aliens....

California-native Marcia Gay Harden has been gracing the big screen for decades, but now she’s also making the rounds on television. Check her out in CBS’ new dramedy So Help Me Todd, for instance. Ever since Marvel Studios dropped the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight, the internet has been buzzing with excitement and curiosity. Now it looks like we have another look into this unique character as new merchandise gives us a better look into his Egyptian origins and design. As you can see, the look contains multiple moon emblems, tying him to his lunar inspiration. The terrible news has just come in that Nichelle Nichols has died. Famous for her role as Lieutenant Uhura in Star Trek: The Original Series, a role she would reprise in the feature films, Nichols has long been recognized as barrier breaker for Black woman on television, at one point drawing praise from Dr. Martin Luther King. She is also one of the most beloved members of the Star Trek community and has been very popular with Trekkies for several decades....
