NBC is moving forward with a reboot of its hit 1980s series Remington Steele, which starred Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist. The pilot script was written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn (Zookeeper, The Smurfs), with Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad, Zombieland) attached to direct the first episode. The original series centered on Pierce Brosnan’s title character, a con man who was recruited by private investigator Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) to become the fictional figurehead at her detective agency....

New Line has bought film rights to Howard Chaykin’s graphic novel Power and Glory and has set up the project with Chris Bender and JC Spink through their Benderspink banner. Chaykin’s story centers on a crime fighter who’s genetically engineered to be a superhero but fears using his powers and needs to be teamed with a former CIA agent. Power and Glory was first published as a Malibu Comics series in the 1990s....

Regis Philbin will host the official 30-minute red carpet arrivals show preceding the 80th Academy Awards presentation, executive producer Gil Cates and producer Dennis Doty announced. This will be Philbin’s first time hosting the show that airs beginning at 5 p.m. on the ABC Television Network, immediately prior to the Academy Awards presentation. “Regis is the perfect guy to serve as host. M3GAN was released in theaters nationwide on Jan. 6 and grossed over $11.7 million in box office sales. According to a recent report from Variety, M3GAN is projected to rake in somewhere between $17 million to $20 million by the end of its opening weekend. While Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to hold on to its top spot, M3GAN is certainly fast on its heels. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Magnolia Pictures has acquired all North American rights to The Pusher Trilogy, three Danish crime dramas from director Nicolas Winding Refn. After pioneering the day-and-date, cross-platform release of Steven Soderbergh’s Bubble with its sister companies at 2929 Entertainment on Jan. 27, Magnolia Pictures again will experiment with the theatrical release of the three films, tentatively titled Pusher, Pusher II: With Blood on My Hands and Pusher III: I’m the Angel of Death....

With actors from the Marvel shows on Netflix starting to appear in current projects set in the MCU, it’s only natural for the writers to get more involved as well. Per The Illuminerdi, Ken Kristensen and Dara Resnik have been tapped to join the writer’s room for Echo, the upcoming series that serves as a spinoff series for Alaqua Cox following her debut in Hawkeye. Previously, Kristensen wrote three episodes of The Punisher while Resnik penned two episodes of Daredevil’s final season....

While The Batman will present perhaps the darkest take on the Dark Knight ever told on the big screen so far, there wasn’t anything filmed for the feature that would have pushed its rating too far. Officially, The Batman has been rated PG-13 for “strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.” When this was first announced, it dismayed some fans who thought this might be the first theatrical Batman film to get an R rating....

Here are some interesting passages: A fourth Shrek film is scheduled for 2010. Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. (DWA), recently said a fifth will follow. There are no current plans for another Pirates film, but Johnny Depp has indicated he’s open to it. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have said with certainty that Spider-Man will be back, but writer-director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have voiced reluctance to continue....

Mortal Kombat star Mehcad Brooks has offered a promising update regarding the development of the sequel, and the return of his metal-arm sporting character, Jackson “Jax” Briggs. In an interview with Screenrant, Brooks teased a comeback for fan-favorite character Jax in Mortal Kombat 2, though he had to stay pretty tight-lipped about everything else. Released last year, the first Mortal Kombat acts as an adaptation of the popular video game and a reboot of the live-action adaptations from the 1990s....
