Noted British actor and BAFTA Award winner Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man, Notting Hill) is the most recent actor to join the cast of the Showtime comedy pilot Trending Down. The pilot also stars Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) and acclaimed actress Kathryn Hahn (Revolutionary Road) in the lead roles of Thom and Lee Payne. Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel is not being pushed back a year (as was reported here), according to Vulture, which is reporting that the Fox production, now titled Paradise, is on track to start production in March. The delay talk could have been an effort of Scott Free to accommodate potential star Leonardo DiCaprio’s schedule, but now that that’s out the window, there will be no “push” to next year. This reboot of the original Alien franchise will follow a group of space travelers who encounter a monstrous alien creature that picks them off, one by one....

It was a set of highly entertaining stories perfectly suited for a world of diminished attention spans in an age of TikTok videos and Instagram posts; it even represents its title in emojis. At its best, the series can tell the same tales as Black Mirror but with a quarter of the runtime....

(“MGM”) today announced that it and approximately 160 of its affiliates have filed Chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York (the “Court”) to seek confirmation of their “pre-packaged” plan of reorganization (“Plan”). MGM has sufficient cash on hand, and the consent of its lenders to use this cash, to fund normal business operations throughout the Chapter 11 process. MGM has filed “first-day” motions seeking immediate Court approval to continue paying its employees, vendors, participants, guilds and licensors in the ordinary course of business during the entire Chapter 11 process, for both pre-petition and post-petition obligations....

One of the most celebrated foreign films of last year is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray this October. Mongol will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on October 14. We have no special features details as of yet, but the standard DVD will be priced at $27.95 SRP while the Blu-Ray disc will run for $35.99 SRP. The world has lost another figurehead of television history. Morgan Stevens, best known for his role in The Waltons, passed away on January 26th, TMZ reports. Stevens was born on October 16th, 1951. Growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee, the young star headed straight for Hollywood after graduating from college. His first step into acting would be an uncredited role in the 1970 television series Mod Squad. After that, he went on to play Fred in the 1979 series One Day at a Time....
