Dimension Films has provided us with new high-resolution movie stills from Grindhouse, which arrives in theatres on April 6. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are each directing a 60-minute horror tale for Grindhouse. Rodriguez’s part, Planet Terror, will be a zombie movie, while Tarantino’s section, Death Proof, will a slasher film. Faux trailers and ads will run between the two pictures as an intermission. According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has signed on as DreamWorks’ dance partner for “Dreamgirls,” the Bill Condon-directed adaptation of the stage musical. The studios will co-finance the film, a thinly veiled telling of the rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes in the formative years of Motown Records. The pic stars Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and Eddie Murphy. DreamWorks will release the film in North America; Paramount will handle overseas. Production begins in January for a December 2006 release....
Two-time Grammy Award-nominated composer Jon Brion has signed to create the original score for Laika and Focus Features’ animated comedy thriller ParaNorman, currently in production at Laika’s Oregon studios for nationwide release by Focus on Friday, August 17th, 2012. Following Laika and Focus’ groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline, ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. Laika President and CEO Travis Knight made the announcement today....
And we thought it was just amazing to watch… In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that “Planet Earth: The Complete Series, from BBC Video, has generated $3.2 million in consumer spending since its April 24 release on both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats, according to figures provided by Warner Home Video.” Helping these numbers is that the “average sales price” of this set is “about $70, that translates to about 42,000 units” sold....
