UPDATE: Variety is now confirming that Rourke will be playing Whiplash, however they say that the movie version of the character will combine elements taken from the Crimson Dynamo. For months now, it has been debated as to whether or not Mickey Rourke was going to end up playing a villain in Iron Man 2 (and furthermore the question has raged on about which villain.) Now, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily says that Rourke has signed a casting deal for the sequel to 2008’s Iron Man....

NBC has given a full-season order for 2006-07 to its critically hailed freshman drama Friday Night Lights (Tuesdays, 8-9 p.m. ET), it was announced by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment. “We’re proud to reward an authentic, poignant series like Friday Night Lights with a full-season order, demonstrating our confidence in it’s appeal and quality,” said Reilly. “Television critics and devoted fans have supported the show with well-deserved praise for the executive producers, writers and exceptionally talented cast....

NBC is teaming up with The Tudors creator Michael Hirst to create a new event series that charts the meteoric rise of musical legends The Beatles. The network is in early stages of developing the eight-episode series, with Michael Hirst set to write the scripts and executive produce alongside The Tudors producers Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg. The project reunites Michael Hirst with NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who gave the green light for The Tudors while he ran Showtime....

NBC has renewed its exclusive agreement with Donald J. Trump and the Miss Universe Organization to broadcast the Miss Universe and Miss USA competitions on the network for three additional years effective in 2008. Telemundo will also continue to broadcast the Miss Universe pageant as well as produce a Spanish language simulcast and pre-pageant program. Neil Gaiman is readying yet another one of his novels for the silver screen. According to MTV Splash Page, Neil Gaiman revealed that his latest novel, The Graveyard Book, is set for a feature film adaptation. Nelsan Ellis passed away suddenly at the age of 39 over the weekend and his family has decided to speak out about the circumstances surrounding his death. Over the weekend it was reported that Ellis had passed away due to complications from heart failure, but there were no further details given. Fans of HBO’s True Blood were shocked and saddened to learn of Ellis’ death, many proclaiming the actor’s portrayal of Lafayette to be a highlight of the entire series and Ellis’ costars took to social media to pay heartfelt tribute to the late actor....

Netflix’s subscribers and users in Russia are filing a class-action lawsuit against the popular streaming platform for its decision to pull out of the country. According to the Russian state media outlet, RIA, as reported by Variety, twenty people have successfully joined the lawsuit and more than a hundred more individuals have applied to join. With twenty signatures, the case now has the minimum number of people required for a class-action in Russia....

The Autobots are getting ready to roll out to Netflix. Hasbro and Rooster Teeth have partnered with the streaming service for a brand new Transformers animated series titled Transformers: War for Cybertron. The series will tell an origin story set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Autobots and Decepticons, in a way audiences haven’t seen previously. Netflix is set to debut the series in 2020. Polygon Pictures, the studio behind the previous Transformers animated venture, Robots in Disguise, as well as Star Wars: Resistance, serves as the animation studio, with Rooster Teeth on board to produce the series....

Netflix has released a teaser for the highly anticipated season 2 of The Umbrella Academy. The official full-length trailer will drop tomorrow, May 28th.
