The Lord of the Rings is one of the most famous and beloved fantasy adventure tales in all fiction. The world and characters created by J.R.R. Tolkien have captured the hearts of every generation since they were first published. The first appearance of Middle-Earth on the page came in the form of The Hobbit, a shorter novel, which was published in 1937. The real meat of Tolkien’s Legendarium began to take shape with his three-part masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, which hit shelves almost 20 years later in the mid-1950s....

Hallmark favorite and former Full House star Lori Loughlin is out of the big house after serving just under two months behind bars for her role in last year’s infamous college admissions scandal. When Loughlin began serving her two-month prison sentence on Oct. 30, there was speculation that she could be released early and just in time for Christmas due to her release date falling on a weekend. That didn’t turn out to be the case, but the good news for Loughlin is that she’ll be able to ring in the new year as a free woman....

The planned Pirates of the Caribbean reboot with Margot Robbie is apparently no longer happening, as the actress recently revealed that the project has fallen through. That leaves the current state of the franchise unknown, as it’s not entirely clear what the powers that be at Disney hope to do with the movie series next. It does seem like a good possibility that Disney noticed the immense fan support for Johnny Depp and the interest in getting him back into the franchise, which could have cast doubt on the potentiality for success with rebooting the series without him....

Stranger Things star and real-life daughter of Uma Thurman, Maya Hawke, has responded favorably to the idea of being part of director Quentin Tarantino’s oft-rumored sequel, Kill Bill 3. While the project has been far from confirmed, fans of Tarantino’s bloody revenge saga have repeatedly endorsed Maya Hawke for a role, and though the actress acknowledges the futility of some rumors, she does state that she would love the opportunity....

Zach Braff, Rachel Bilson, and Jacinda Barrett party it up for the release of the soundtrack We’ve been laughing at Zach Braff for years on Scrubs - but recently, he’s made the jump to the big screen with his amazing directorial debut, Garden State. Zach wrote and starred in the film, opposite Natalie Portman. There was something that made that film stand out - the music. The soundtrack for Garden State was one of the best I’ve heard in a long time; boasting with Coldplay, Remy Zero, and Simon and Garfunkel, the CD also had newcomers Cary Brothers and The Shins, among many others....

Michael Shannon is set to take up the director’s chair for the first time in his career after agreeing to helm the upcoming adaptation of Eric Larue. Shannon is probably best known for his roles in box office hits Man of Steel and Knives Out but has also enjoyed a successful career in less prominent roles in both film and in live theater. Despite receiving two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor in Nocturnal Animals and Revolutionary Road, Shannon has arguably had more success on stage....

A green ogre, a rock star wannabe, an international spy of mystery, an upcoming love guru and now host of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, Mike Myers takes the reins for the seventeenth annual show premiering live on MTV, Sunday June 1 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA. This is Myers’ second time hosting the alternative awards show. As previously announced, the 2008 MTV Movie Awards will be executive produced by Emmy Award winning producer Mark Burnett....

You can bring home one of the Best Picture Oscar nominees home on DVD and Blu-ray this March. Milk will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 10. The DVD will be priced at $29.98 SRP and the Blu-ray will run for $39.98 SRP. The film stars Sean Penn, James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Josh Brolin. Academy Award winner Sean Penn takes the title role in Gus Van Sant’s biopic tracing the last eight years in the life of Harvey Milk, the ill-fated politician and gay activist whose life changed history, and whose courage still inspires people....

The episode of House M.D. that will follow The Super Bowl guest stars Mira Sorvino as a woman in the South Pole who must perform surgery on herself with only a web cam link between herself and Dr. House. Several years ago there was an incident in which a woman had to treat herself for cancer when she was trapped in the South Pole, and Sorvino says the concept is similar....

The Weinstein Company has just pulled a hat trick in terms of overturning a movie’s rating with the MPAA. Last year, they managed to get Blue Valentine’s NC-17 turned into an R, and then they got The King’s Speech’s R turned into a PG-13 after muffling a few F words. Now, they’ve gotten the MPAA to overturn Miral’s rating from an R to a PG-13. Here is the official statement from the MPAA....

If you loved the computer screen thriller Searching starring John Cho, you’re in luck. A standalone sequel is due to hit theaters next year. If you are ready for a new story that unfolds entirely on a computer, Missing should be on your watch list. Deadline confirmed in 2019 that a sequel to the John Cho-led film was in the works. The film went into development in the spring of 2021....

The budget for upcoming action sequel Mission: Impossible 7 has blown up far beyond anything even the quick-thinking Ethan Hunt could have expected, with a new report from Variety revealing that it has cost Paramount $290 million. Thanks to the aspirations of star Tom Cruise alongside the dramatic hurdles thrown up by real-world goings-on, Mission: Impossible 7 has cost the studio a whole lot more money than they intended to use to make the movie, well, possible....

The once-popular NBC series Heroes may be revived through MSN, which is looking to break into original content through its XBox network. Negotiations are still in the very early stages, but sources have confirmed that MSN has shown interest in bringing back the show, which ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2010. The show will feature a different cast of heroes and story lines, while bringing back original series stars for cameo appearances....

After the tragic death of 21-year-old star Shain Gandee, MTV has decided to cancel the reality series Buckwild. Here’s a brief statement released by the network earlier today. The network also announced they will air the special Buckwild: WV to NYC on Sunday, April 14, following an entire day of programming dedicated to Shain Gandee. “After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with Season 2 of Buckwild in West Virginia....

Netflix will expand its offerings of true crime content with Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes. Set to start streaming later this month, the series consists of three one-hour episodes which delve into the horrific crimes of one of America’s most notorious serial killers using actual audio recordings featuring Gacy’s voice. A trailer has been released for the docuseries, and you can check it out below.
