The new Pamela Anderson documentary on Netflix is garnering rave reviews. Dubbed Pamela, a love story, the film provides a thorough look into the career and personal life of the Baywatch star, addressing situations she’s never publicly spoken about up to now. The result appears to be a compelling documentary that the professional critics are saying is must-see, based on its 100% approval rating (and 90% audience score) at Rotten Tomatoes.

“The film does her justice and provides a fair account of a person frequently reduced to an object,” says reviewer Steven Prokopy of Third Coast Review.

“By sharing her intimate life story, spanning from an abusive childhood, through to the scandals and her recent stint on Broadway, Pamela achieves its goal, even if it does so rather chaotically,” Andrew Murray of The Upcoming writes.

Suggesting that those who aren’t particularly invested in Anderson one way or another may enjoy the documentary most of all, Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press says, “It is a captivating watch, especially for those who never thought much about her at all.”

Some reviewers have also noted that it’s intriguing to see Anderson telling her side of the story following Hulu’s controversial release of the scripted limited series Pam & Tommy. Anderson has previously spoken out about how she’s unhappy that the series was made, stating that she should get a “public apology” from the producers. For some critics, it’s about time Anderson spoke up to set the record straight, making Pamela, a love story that much more fascinating to watch.

“Pamela, a love story offers a pop cultural counterpoint that’s long overdue, and Anderson deserves a lot of credit for coming forward and sharing a warts and all view of a life no one other than herself will ever understand,” writes Andrew Parker of The Gate.
