Paper Girls is about four young, well, paper girls who begin their paper delivery route on a November morning in 1988 and end up extremely far away from home. Stuck, at first, in the year 2019 (the comic was originally published in 2015), the four paper girls discover some shocking truths about their future selves while struggling to find a way back to 1988.

Brian K. Vaughan is best known for his incredible comic Saga and was rumored to be writing a live-action Gundam movie in 2019. It’s not the first time his work has been adapted, and apparently, he and his fans are enjoying the show. He told ComicBook during an interview:

Hopefully, we can continue to see more of this expert adaptation if the show gets a second season. The first was a bit of an expanded version of the comic book, so there could be a little extra we see in the show that may not have been in the books. The ending certainly lent itself to exciting new developments. As the Prioress (Adina Porter) tried to send the whole group into the future in order to stop the time war, they were accidentally separated when the first ship was fired too early, and the Grand Father (Jason Mantzoukas) came in to mess up the second launch.

We have no idea where KJ (Fina Strazza) and Mac (Sofia Rosinsky) went, while Tiff (Camryn Jones) and Erin (Riley Lai Nelet) landed in some era when drive-In movies were still popular. We already know that if the girls get back home, they will have something to reckon with their selves from the information they learned in their adventures. But there is a lot between them and their goal.

Will Season 2 Go the Way of Back to the Future?

It’s important to note that we haven’t read the comics, so what comes next won’t necessarily spoil what happens in season 2. It’s 100% speculation.

Everyone is excited to see the relationships between the girls grow. Camryn Jones, who plays Tiffany Quilkin, told Hollywood Life:

But they all have problems to deal with first. Tiff and Erin landed at an uncertain time. But the drive-in movie they’re at is playing Burt Reynolds’ The Longest Yard (1974), and David Bowie’s “Golden Years” (1975) is playing over the scene. The music has been a good marker for when the girls are, and the music department for the series has made some excellent choices in picking out iconic songs.

So, we think Tiff and Erin are stuck in 1975, one year before any of them are born. The stage is set for the girls to do a Back to the Future. Meaning that they might have to rush to make sure all of their parents meet so they can all be born in 1976.

KJ and Mac were probably sent to the future, the original landing spot intended by the Prioress. So, while Erin and Tiff work on where this all started, the other half of the group will have to try and finish everything. If KJ and Mac are at the intended spot in the future, they’ll have to try and convince older Tiff never to invent time travel. But if we had to guess, there might be a little hint of romance happening along with saving the world.

As KJ discovers herself and Mac learns to be more vulnerable, the two might find each other the only people they can trust in this crazy timeline. We’re excited to see where the story goes and especially excited to see Vaughan’s vision of the future as Paper Girls hopefully gets its second season.
