Jeff Davis is becoming the Julie Plec of werewolf shows. The creator of MTV’s Teen Wolf is back with another wolf-themed show, though it isn’t connected to his first. Wolf Pack is based on the 2004 book of the same name by Edo van Belkom and will star a familiar face from supernatural teen shows of the early 2000s.
The series was exclusively announced by Variety in September 2021. Teen Wolf: The Movie was also confirmed in the article. During the Teen Wolf: The Movie panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was announced as a cast member for Wolf Pack, joining showrunner Davis on stage. Davis is also an executive producer on the series alongside Gellar, Joseph Genier (Teen Wolf), Mike Elliott (First Wives Club), and Karen Gorodetzky (Teen Wolf).

Wolf Pack: The Plot
Paramount+
The teaser released at New York Comic Con hinted at what audiences can expect in the new series. A forest fire in California resulted in two teens being bitten by a strange creature and becoming werewolves. They join two other teens, who have been wolves for some time, as their life changes forever.
The book synopsis gives a better idea of what could happen in the new series, including who may be taking care of the teen werewolves:
The book is the first of four, which means the show writers have plenty of source material to work with. As the series moves along, a logging company threatens the teen wolves’ home, people go missing, and the constant threat of exposure overlays everything the characters go through.
“After a devastating forest fire, a ranger discovers a litter of wolf cubs. He and his wife soon learn that they are no ordinary wolves. They are both animal and human. Although the young ones try to fit into the human world, their true nature makes the challenges of being teenagers all the more difficult.
When one of the pack is kidnapped, the others must draw on both sides of their nature – human and wolf – to find the cunning, the strength, and the courage it takes to rescue her.”
The first book is considered a horror novel, which could point to what audiences can expect from the series. The show is aging the characters up, as the first book features them as young children. The second book, Lone Wolf, features the wolves as teens, so there may be a blending of plot points from the first two books in the show’s first season.
Wolf Pack: The Cast
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as Kristin Ramsey. Based on the trailer, the character seems to be part of local law enforcement. Gellar is well-known for her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but audiences may also recognize her from All My Children, The Grudge, and Do Revenge. Rodrigo Santoro is Garrett Briggs, the character presumed to be the park ranger. His previous work includes Westworld, 300, and Focus.
It isn’t a show about teen werewolves without the teens. Armani Jackson is Everett Lang, Bella Shepard is Blake Navarro, Chloe Rose Robertson is Luna Briggs, and Tyler Lawrence Gray is Harlan Briggs. Jackson is known for playing Travis Biggins in Honor Society, while Shepard has had roles in the new iCarly and The Wilds. Wolf Pack marks the first series for Robertson and Gray.
Additional recurring cast members include Bailey Stender (iCarly), Chase Liefeld (Sunnyside Up), Hollie Bahar (Westworld), Lanny Joon (Bulge Bracket), Rio Mangini (Everything Sucks!), Stella Smith (Stargirl), Zack Nelson (The Rookie), James Martinez (Love, Victor, One Day at a Time), Amy Pietz (Love, Victor), Bria Brimmer (The Map of Tiny Perfect Things), John L. Adams (The Dead Zone), and Sean Philip Glasgow (Diary of a Future President).
Release Date
The show will be available to stream on Paramount+ starting January 26, 2023.
Everything Else We Know
Wolf Pack was originally thought to be a part of the Teen Wolf universe because of how promotion for the series has taken place. The original announcement revealed both the series and Teen Wolf: The Movie were moving forward. A key cast member was announced during a Teen Wolf comic-con panel. It makes sense to think that Wolf Pack is associated with the iconic werewolf series.
However, Davis has confirmed the two wolf franchises are not set in the same universe. In a comment on Gellar’s Instagram post showing off her character, the showrunner comments, “#itsnotaspinoff.” The official Wolf Pack Instagram account replied in the comment section, saying the show is taking place in a new universe and was a completely different show.
