MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The series has been in development since March, with Yellowstone’s writer Ian McCulloch on board to pen the script. Originally titled Teacup, the show revolves around a group of disparate individuals on a Texas ranch that must come together in the face of a mysterious and ominous threat. Wan’s production company Atomic Monster and Universal Studio Group’s UCP are producing the half-hour series. The Haunting of Bly Manor’s E.L. Katz is directing the first episode and serves as an executive producer for the show. McCulloch, McCammon, Michael Clear (Archive 81), and Rob Hackett (Archive 81, The Haunting of Bly Manor) are all joining Wan and Katz as executive producers.
This upcoming series has the recipe to create a highly successful and captivating thriller, mainly since the show includes multiple people who have previously worked together on acclamatory projects. Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content for NBCUniversal, echoed these sentiments in a public statement. “We are so excited for this adrenalized thriller about a group of people overcoming adversity, that’s both entertaining and emotional. We know this upcoming drama will be in expert hands with James Wan, E.L. Katz, Ian McCulloch, our partners at UCP, and is sure to be a binge-worthy mystery for Peacock audiences."
Stinger Takes Place in a Small Texas Town That Falls Prey to an Interstellar Hunter
Warner Bros. Entertainment
Although specific details about the script have not been released, the series will focus on the events from Robert McCammon’s 1988 bestseller Stinger. The novel takes place in the small town of Inferno, Texas, over 24 hours. Inferno is at the precipice of ruin, driven to that point due to racial tension, gang violence, and the town’s collapsing economy. The events in the novel begin to escalate after an unidentified spacecraft crashes in the desert just outside Inferno.
As if the circumstances couldn’t get worse for the residents of the withering town, their situation quickly turns dire after a second spacecraft lands containing a supernatural alien creature who becomes known as Stinger. The alien is an interstellar hunter with an infinite capacity for destruction brought to Earth on a mission he plans to complete no matter the cost. His threatening presence places the inhabitants of Inferno and the world in jeopardy. As grisly events begin to furiously unfold, citizens must band together to defeat the menacing adversary.
Stinger still remains one of McCammon’s most compelling stories to date, packed with frightful imagery and multidimensional characters in an accelerated narrative that still hits every mark. With McCammon on board as executive producer, many of the novel’s pillar elements will probably be incorporated into the upcoming show. Stinger’s fans and general horror enthusiasts should brace themselves for a splendidly horrid extraterrestrial tale from the Peacock series.
