By order of the Peaky Blinders, the sixth and final season will air on BBC One from February 27, meaning that fans (in the UK at least) don’t have to wait too much longer to once again bask in the gripping crime drama starring Cillian Murphy. Revealed by the official Peaky Blinders Twitter account, it has also since been confirmed that Peaky Blinders Season 6 will consist of six episodes.

For the rest of the world, Netflix has not yet confirmed when the series will become available, but we can now fully expect an update soon. The imminent release date was revealed courtesy of a hugely impressive 13-meter mural painted over seven days on the side of a building in Digbeth, Birmingham. The place where the real-life Shelby family hailed from.

Debuting back in 2013, Peaky Blinders follows Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the dangerous leader of the Peaky Blinders, a criminal gang based in Birmingham in 1919. The fifth season of the show aired last year on BBC One, and proved to be the most popular season of the show so far, bringing in an average of 7 million viewers per episode. Season 5 ended on something of a cliffhanger, with Tommy and the gang finding themselves in a precarious position following the failed assassination of Oswald Mosley. Cracks in the family have begun to form due to the ambitions of Michael, with the war between Tommy and Michael sitting at the center of Season 6.

Peaky Blinders Season 6 Will Take Things to an Even Darker Place

The recent trailer for Peaky Blinders Season 6 teased some of what’s to come, including the return of Tom Hardy and the involvement of Stephen Graham. Cillian Murphy, meanwhile, has offered some insight into what audiences can expect from the gang’s final outing, describing it as “dark as f—k,” and saying, “I think that’s what Steve was aiming for, with loads of wrong turns along the way. But I don’t know. I’ll leave that to the court of public opinion. I don’t know if he’s been redeemed.”

While it seems that season 6 will wrap up Tommy Shelby’s arc, this will not be the end of the Peaky Blinders franchise altogether. Creator Steven Knight has revealed that the story will continue in a movie, revealing that they are hoping to start production in 2023. “And then [after season 6 finishes] I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham,” Knight said back in October. “And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it.” Knight chooses the words “as we know it” carefully, as several spinoffs have also since been teased.

Starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby Jr., Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, Sam Claflin as Oswald Mosley, and Stephen Graham, Peaky Blinders season 6 will land on the BBC on February 27, 2022.
