Pedro Pascal is currently at the top of his game. The third season of The Mandalorian, the successful series from the Star Wars universe that has him as its main star, will premiere in only a few weeks. In addition, he is also the protagonist of one of the biggest hits of the year, the series adaptation of the popular video game The Last of Us, which has become a massive success for HBO.
However, the actor may have been left out of the show. And not because he lost the role to another candidate but because he forgot when they called him to let him know that he had been chosen for the part. This was revealed by Pascal himself during his interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“That was a really strange circumstance. I was actually in London, and everyone else was in Los Angeles. And I got sent these scripts and said.. I was told that “Craig Mazin wants you to read these scripts, and if you like them, he’d like to talk to you.” I loved Chernobyl, the miniseries that he showed for HBO. It was unbelievable. Anyway, I read the first script and I was like “Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want to meet him. I want to meet him.” And we talked, we fell in love. And they were like, “Will you stay up a little bit later?” At this point it was getting kind of late in London. “To talk to Neil Druckmann, the creator of the video game.” Genius. Brilliant guy. “And he’d like to talk to you as well.” [I] stay up for that Zoom. We all fall in love again. And then I – and then, at that point, it’s really late. I’ve got to get up in the morning. I take an Ambien to go to sleep just in case – they’ve got my adrenaline kind of going and my hopes up. But I get a call and I get told that I got the job after I took the Ambien. And so, I was excited, I guess, but I didn’t remember. I woke up in the morning and the first thing that occurred to me was like, “Oh, man. I really want that job.”
What’s Next for Pedro Pascal After The Last of Us?
HBO Max
HBO has already renewed the Last of Us for a second season, and a third one is already in discussion, so there are still several years left of Pedro playing Joel. Surely the same will happen with The Mandalorian, which continues to garner recognition and good reviews, so at least on the small screen, he will have some work for a while.
In addition, he will continue to work with HBO as executive producer and lead of My Dentist’s Murder Trial, a true crime limited series based on a 2017 New Yorker article. It tells the story of how Dr. Gilberto Núñez was accused of the death of Thomas Kolman, his best friend. He’ll be joined by Stranger Things’ David Harbour for the leading roles.
He will also star in Freaky Tales with Ben Mendelsohn and Jay Elis, Anna Boden, and Ryan Fleck’s next film, which depicts four interconnected stories taking place at real locations and during real historical events in 1987 Oakland, California. It will tell about the love of music, movies, people, places, and memories beyond our knowable universe. You can check out Pascal’s interview with Jimmy Fallon below.
