Away from the new reveals of Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, Disney’s D23 Expo delivered a number of new trailers and announcements, which included the first trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Having been the subject of two movies that didn’t quite live up to the expectations of fans or the author, the fantasy saga is now heading to Disney+ as a brand new series with Walker Scobell in the title role. After production has been teased by author Rick Riordan over the last few months, the first footage has now been released. You can check out the trailer below.
There is still some way to go before the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians his Disney+, but for now the trailer gives a tantalizing look at the mythology-inspired world and sets the tone that the show will bring. With a narration by its young lead, the short trailer gives a first look at Camp Half-Blood and just a small hint at the danger Percy will be facing in the series.

Percy Jackson was originally introduced in the novel Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is a demigod which leads him into a world where all the things he believed to be fictional come to life. He finds himself caught in the middle of an approaching war that only he can help stop.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Can Redeem The Character For Past Adaptations

There is always a risk that adapting a much-loved series of novels may end up being heavily criticized by fans for not delivering what they expect, or in many cases condensing the story to fit a short movie runtime. That is what happened when Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief hit cinemas in 2010, and although the film did get a sequel, both movies fell hugely short for audiences and for creator Rick Riordan, who all but disowned the adaptations. Now, with the chance to set that right, Riordan is looking to bring a much better and more faithful version to screen in 2024. Last month, the author updated fans on filming, saying:
“How much Percy content have we covered? Put it this way: If you were following along in the book, we have pretty much filmed through chapter nine in The Lightning Thief. That’s a big chunk of the story, but there is a massive amount of fun and games still to come! In general, we have now covered most of the principal photography for ‘block one,’ which has been overseen by our fearless directorial leader James Bobin. While we continue filming the subsequent episodes under the talented and able direction of Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson, James will now retreat into his Fortress of Solitude and begin creating a director’s cut for the work he has done so far. Everything already looks so good in the raw footage, I can’t imagine how great it will be when James gets done choosing his favorite shots and putting them all together. Then the producers (including me) will do our revisions. Then the studio will put in their input.”
