The animation film technique is one of the most popular movie categories that requires skill and talent. Pinocchio used stop-motion animation, to portray a musical fantasy adventure. ‘‘It is incredibly, incredibly installed in the minds of a lot of people that are in the movie business that animation is a genre for kids and is not, as a medium, for creation of beauty and film and art,” the filmmaker Guillermo del Toro said, per Collider.
The movie retells the tale of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet that comes to life as the son of his carver Geppetto, and is loosely based on the 1883 Italian classic The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. It also draws heavily on the pictures by Gris Grimly from the 2002 version of the book. As a long-term passion project for del Toro, the movie was first scheduled for release in 2008 but was postponed for many years until 2022. The delays were mostly due to financial issues, according to IndieWire.

Winning the Golden Globe
Netflix
Pinocchio had stiff competition for the award. The other Best Animated Feature Film nominees included the Japanese animated musical Inu-Oh, the Shrek spin-off and sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Netflix’s original coming-of-age adventure Turning Red, and the quirky mockumentary comedy-drama Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Although the competition was stiff, it is obvious why Pinocchio won. The film earned a whopping 97% positive score on the review website Rotten Tomatoes.
Del Toro first joked in his remarks when accepting the award about how many people there could be inebriated. He went on to say, “It’s a movie not for kids, but kids can see it with you if you explain it to them.” Your eyes will be opened to all facets of life—love, loss, joy, and all other unprocessed feelings in between—by this film. It is occasionally somber and gloomy, but it is a real monument to the fact that life is difficult and that beauty can be found at any stage.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is currently streaming on Netflix.
