“Good As Hell” pop star Lizzo is going to be the subject of her very own documentary heading straight to HBO Max this fall. The as of right now untitled doc is set to explore the singer, songwriter, rapper, flutist, and actor’s humble beginnings and follow the star’s rise with an intimate look into the moments that shaped her hard-earned rise to success, fame, love, and international stardom.
The documentary is directed by Doug Pray, the executive producer of HBO’s The Defiant Ones and the director of Seattle grunge doc Hype! Pray will also produce the film alongside his producing partner Stephanie Meurer. Other producers on the film include Nicole Rocklin, Ryan Kroft, Kevin Weaver, Kevin Beisler, and Lizzo herself. She’s exec producing the film through her production company Lizzobangers.
Other executive producers on the film are Charlie Cohen, Craig Kallman, Julie Greenwald, and Len Blavatnik, who work for Atlantic Films/Warner Music Entertainment. Executive producing for Live Nation Productions is Chad Wasser, Lesley Olenik, Omar Al-Joulani, and Michael Rapino, while executive producing for Diamond Docs is Mark Monroe.
“About Damn Time”
The movie has been in the works for a long time, with Deadline teasing the series in December 2020. Lizzo herself announced the project at Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront in New York. Lizzo’s second appearance at the Upfronts, after appearing at the YouTube event earlier in the week, after she also hosted SNL.
