The MCU has been fantastic at delivering Easter eggs to fans and, ultimately, laying the groundwork for its future projects. Since the MCU’s creation with the release of Iron Man in 2008, Kevin Feige, with his team of writers, directors, and producers, has delivered a plethora of strong plots to audiences worldwide. From the smaller issues and battles, to the reversals of character arches and traits, to even the big bads of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its phases of films, the MCU has been highly successful at populating a vast world of stories.

Evident by the ongoing success of the MCU, the solo-films, team-up-films, and Disney+ original television series have brought fan-favorite characters and iterations of awe-inspiring teams to its projects. The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, and The Illuminati are just a few examples of popular teams brought to the MCU, and with the set-up for many more to come, such as: The Thunderbolts, The Midnight Sons, and The Fantastic Four. While there are countless more alliances and organizations in the comics, including handfuls of different Avengers teams, one team that looks to be coming soon is that of the Young Avengers. With so many young heroes being more commonly introduced in MCU movies and series, fans absolutely grasp the concept of the Young Avengers team coming to an MCU project in the near future.

While many people may wish to see other teams, such as the X-Men or West Coast Avengers, come before the Young Avengers, one thing is certain: the more Avenger teams and characters, the merrier. With that being said, let us dive into our picks for possible MCU characters who could make a roster spot for a Young Avengers team up in the future.

7 America Chavez (Miss America)

     Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

America Chavez, a.k.a. Miss America, recently made her MCU debut in the fantastic sequel to Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse of Madness. While she was seen in the film not having her powers of dimension/reality jumping in control, by the end of the film, with Doctor Strange’s inspiration, she had obtained a much better grasp of them. Her skill set and personality would work well with others, once she warmed up to them, and she has the potential to be an omega-level hero. America is not one of the founding/original members of the Young Avengers, though she has been a member of the team, and would definitely be an essential member in the MCU.

6 Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)

     Disney Platform Distribution

Kate Bishop, unlike America, was a founding member in the comics when the team was assembled in a 2005 comic run, and is an ideal member for a leader role in an MCU iteration of the team. Kate is a new hero, who appeared in the 2021 Hawkeye Disney+ series; by the end of which, she took up the mantle of Hawkeye from Clint Barton. While Kate doesn’t have any superpowers per se, she is an expert marksman with a bow, and has an excellent intellect for battle and strategy. When a Young Avengers project is released in the MCU, we can be sure to see Kate Bishop as a key member.

5 Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel)

Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, has just received her own Disney+ series, titled Ms. Marvel. With two episodes released at the time of this article being published, we see how her origin has changed from her comic book origin. In the comics, she is an inhuman, a race of humanoid beings with powers and mutations, who received her powers after Terrigen was released into the atmosphere. Terrigen is an element that activates dominant inhuman genes in humans who have inhuman ancestors.

In the series, her powers seem to work the same, being similar to Mr. Fantastic’s powers, though they look to have come from some sort of alien technology rather than biologically. Regardless of how she got her powers or the fact that she has never been part of a Young Avengers team (though she is the leader and founder of another team, The Champions), she would be an excellent addition to the MCU’s Young Avengers.

4 Cassie Lang (Stature/Stinger)

     Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The daughter of the MCU’s Ant-Man, Scott Lang, Cassie Lang has similar powers to her father in the comics. Cassie has been introduced to the MCU, with a couple of different young actresses playing her in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. While Cassie has had different superhero personas in the comics, we can expect to see her as her classic persona, Stature, in any future Young Avengers film where she is a member. In the comics, Cassie Lang became a member of the Young Avengers during the original team’s run during the 2005 series, after almost joining another team of Marvel youngsters known as The Runaways. Cassie Lang would bring not only giant aspirations (pun intended) to the team; she would also offer amazing, quick-witted comical relief to a film or series featuring the Young Avengers.

3 Riri Williams (Ironheart)

     Marvel Comics

Another member of the Champions team, Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart, would make an excellent candidate for a Young Avengers team. While she hasn’t been a member of the Young Avengers in the comics, she is set to receive her own Disney+ series in the near future. Riri Williams is a certified genius, much like one of her inspirations, Iron Man; attending MIT at the young age of 15. In the comics, Riri develops her own Ironheart tech after reverse engineering an outdated version of the Iron Man mech suit. She has played a major role in many stories, including Civil War II, and would make a team of Young Avengers much more diverse thanks to her beautifully intelligent and powerful mind.

2 Eli Bradley (Patriot)

In the comics, Eli Bradley is another founding member of the original Young Avengers team, having powers similar to Captain America. He is the grandson of Isaiah Bradley, who is the only surviving member of an experiment conducted by the U.S. government around the Vietnam War, which attempted to remake the super soldier serum, and another version of Captain America. Eli inherited superhuman abilities from Isaiah’s blood and genetics, albeit on a smaller scale than that of his grandfather or Captain America. Eli Bradley is a butt-kicking, ground-level hero who isn’t one to run from a good fight. He’s fiery, dedicated, and a bit of a jerk; unlike Captain America, Eli isn’t afraid to break some faces in order to get his way, though similarly to Cap, Eli is loyal to a tee.

1 Billy & Tommy Maximoff (Wiccan & Speed)

Our final entry is actually two, as they are somewhat of a package deal, being twins and all. Billy (Wiccan), and Tommy (Speed) Maximoff are the twin sons of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, and have a backstory shrouded in complicated storylines. Being the children of Wanda gave them some pretty strong powers and abilities, with Billy getting similar powers to his mother, and Tommy getting powers that rival his uncle’s, Quicksilver. They are incredibly strong characters who could, through the honing of skills and sizable power-ups, become omega-level characters in their own right.

In the 2005 run, Wiccan and Speed were both part of the original team, and have since been introduced into the MCU through the series WandaVision. While they don’t seem to actually be in the main MCU universe, as seen in the events in WandaVision and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, the possibility of them returning to the main universe is far from zero. These two potentially mutant characters would become staple members of the Young Avengers team, much like their mother, the Scarlet Witch, did in the Avengers.
