The Predator is on the prowl once again in the first trailer for the newest installment in the iconic sci-fi action franchise, Prey. The trailer, which comes courtesy of 20th Century Studios, manages to avoid giving too much away while still creating an atmosphere of jaw-clenching intensity — and letting us know that the Predator is back, of course.

As well as showing off the first footage of Prey, which includes our first look at Legion star Amber Midthunder in action and an invisible Predator, the brief trailer also reveals when the sequel (or should that be prequel?) will land on Hulu. We have known for some time that Prey would be released in the summer season, but now we know exactly when, with Prey debuting on Hulu on August 5.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Prey is an all-new action-thriller from 20th Century Studios and the next outing in the long-running Predator franchise. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (The Boys, 10 Cloverfield Lane), Prey is set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, and tells the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Written by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan, Treadstone), and produced by John Davis (Jungle Cruise, The Predator) and Jhane Myers (Monsters of God), with Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Marty Ewing (It: Chapter Two), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (Fantasy Island) serving as executive producers, Prey stars Amber Midthunder as Naru, a Comanche warrior who must protect her tribe against a Predator, alongside Dane DiLiegro, and Dakota Beavers.

Prey Will Take the Franchise Back to Basics

While the trailer for Prey smartly avoids showing too much, it’s clear that the intention is to take things back to what made the first Predator outing work so well — a human versus a Predator. Much like Arnold Schwarzenegger before her, is looks like Amber Midthunder will be left to tackle the violent alien alone, using the environment to her advantage as she takes the fight to the extra-terrestrial warrior.

Prey will stream August 5, 2022, exclusively on Hulu.
