After the success of Elvis, there will be more of the story told between Elvis and Priscilla Presley in the upcoming movie Priscilla. In development at A24, the film is written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) and will star Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy) as Priscilla alongside Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) as Elvis. The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis & Me, which explores the titular pair’s relationship from how it started to its tragic conclusion.

Representing Elvis, the real Priscilla was present at the Governors Awards with director Baz Luhrmann. She spoke with Variety and touched on Priscilla, and considering all of the Oscar buzz Austin Butler has generated with Elvis, it was asked how Elordi is with his take on the King of Rock ’n Roll. Presley is sure Elordi must be nervous, but hypes him as a “great actor” who should do just fine with the role. As a fan of Coppola, Presley feels that the project should be in good hands and is hopeful that the movie will be wonderful.

Luhrmann then chimed in to comment on the layered nature of Elvis and Priscilla’s relationship, expressing just how excited he personally was to watch Priscilla when the movie is released.

“You know, he’s a great actor. He’s a great actor, and I can only imagine him being a nervous wreck like everyone else is. But, I love Sofia. I love her film work, and I think it’ll be fine… I hope!”

“To me it’s like, they’re a royal couple, and with any royal story, there’s just so many layers to tell, so I personally am dying to see that movie.”

Priscilla Presley Will Have More of Her Story Told in A24’s Priscilla

Cailee Spaeny will be the latest actress to portray Priscilla Presley on screen. The Elvis & Me memoir was previously adapted as a TV movie in 1988 with Susan Walters (The Flash) in the role. Some others who’ve played Priscilla include Kehli O’Byrnein, Antonia Barnath, and Ashley Greene. Most recently, Presley was played by Olivia DeJonge in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.

In addition to writing and directing, Sofia Coppola is producing Priscilla alongside Youree Henley, The Apartment’s Lorenzo Mieli, and American Zoetrope. Coppola will also bring back some of the same crew members used on her prior A24 movies, On the Rocks and The Bling Ring, such as cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, costume designer Stacy Battat, production designer Tamara Deverell, and editor Sarah Flack.

Priscilla does not yet have a release date.
