Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Finally Gives Antonio Banderas’ Heroic Feline a New Story
DreamWorks
Puss In Boot: The Last Wish once again features Banderas as the titular feline, and this time around, we may not see such Puss quite so happy to throw himself into danger with only one of his nine lives left. His lack of chances will form the basis for the movie, with Puss taking up a quest to find “The Last Wish,” which he believes can be used to restore his lives and make him the carefree swashbuckler that he is best known as.
Of course, there is no doubt that the movie will see Puss narrowly avoiding a permanent death on several occasions during his quest, and as we have seen in the teaser, those narrow escapes are likely to be just as humorous as thrilling. With 2011’s Puss in Boots gaining positive reviews on release, and the long wait almost making the character’s return a nostalgic one, there is little doubt that Puss In Boots: The Last Wish will be a box office hit for Dreamworks, which will be good news for the studio.
Dreamworks Animation was one of the first studios to adopt an alternative release strategy when they put out Trolls World Tour in April 2020 as a VOD title with a limited theatrical run. It caused a lot of controversy at the time, with AMC Theaters announcing that they would not distribute the studio’s movies in the future. However, the company agreed on a new contract with Universal soon afterward. The studio will release The Bad Guys in April, but Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is likely to be their first big box office hit since the pandemic began.
