Filmmaking icon Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he prefers Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull over its previous outing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Cue many confused looks. In an interview with ReelBlend, Tarantino declared his controversial opinion on the Indiana Jones franchise, revealing that he does not have much love for The Last Crusade at all, even describing it as “boring.”

This is sure to shock many a movie fan, with the much-maligned Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from 2008 considered to be the lowest point for the beloved franchise about the titular intrepid archeologist. But it seems that Tarantino’s masterful eye has spotted something we all missed.

“I like ‘Crystal Skull’ more than the Sean Connery one. I don’t like the Sean Connery one. I don’t like [that] one at all. … That’s such a boring one. It’s boring! And he’s not an interesting character. The joke is made immediately. It’s like ‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.’”

The man behind such classics as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Volume 2, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood even compares 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which pairs Harrison Ford with Sean Connery as father and son, with the 1992 comedy Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, which finds Sylvester Stallone as a cop who teams up with his mother. Which frankly is quite painful to hear.

While Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did not receive bad reviews upon release, it is by far the most polarizing of the series. Largely thanks to the introduction of aliens to the mythos and the infamous scene in which Indiana survives a nuclear explosion by hiding in a fridge. An event that has since become its own buzzword; “nuking the fridge.”

Tarantino’s talent for filmmaking is unmatched, and he deserves all the respect that movie-goers can muster, but it’s hard to square this one.

Tarantino Recently Named Jaws as the Greatest Movie Ever Made

Speaking of Spielberg-related cinema, Tarantino recently declared his 1975 monster movie classic, Jaws, the “greatest movie ever made.” Speaking further with ReelBlend, the director explained why he believes that Jaws deserves such a title. Now this is a Tarantino stance that is difficult to disagree with.

“I think Jaws is the greatest movie ever made,” Tarantino began. “Maybe not the greatest film. But it’s the greatest movie ever made. And then there are other movies that can get in its rarefied air. But as far as a movie, there’s no making it better than Jaws. There’s no ‘better’ than Jaws. It is the best movie ever made. And it shows how badly timed most movies made before Jaws were.”

Indiana Jones will soon return to screens in Indiana Jones 5 courtesy of director James Mangold. Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023. As for Quentin Tarantino, the filmmaker will enter the literary world with the nonfiction book Cinema Speculation.
