As reported by ScreenRant, actor Rahul Kohli is a longstanding Star Wars lover who’s been known to tease his fans about his involvement in the Star Wars universe. One role that the actor has frequently hinted that he’d wanted to play is Star Wars: Rebels character Ezra Bridger. However, in 2021, Kohli stopped talking about his potential involvement with Star Wars projects and even tweeted that he’d muted mentions of the Rebels character, Bridger, in his Twitter timeline. Even though the star stopped fueling speculation on the Rebels character, Kohli still spoke to his fans about Star Wars and revealed in since-deleted tweets that he’d been offered a role in a Star Wars project but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. Though his original remarks are gone, the actor recently confirmed the news (via Empire).

Kohli said, “I became an actor because of Star Wars. George Lucas is my fantasy dad - along with Jürgen Klopp. I was cast in a Star Wars project - I won’t say which - but I decided to do Midnight Mass instead. So, working with Mark Hamill [on Flanagan’s upcoming series The Fall Of The House Of Usher] was like, ‘Holy shit.’ I was so anxious. But Mark just came over and said, ‘Hey - there’s the Star Wars fan!’ and all my anxiety went. He’s a legend. And House Of Usher will be great. It’s bonkers, loud, in-your-face: very different from everything else Mike’s done.”

There Were Two Star Wars Shows Shooting When Rahul Kohli Was Filming Midnight Mass

Though Kohli did not say which Star Wars project he’d been offered a role in, there are some guesses that can be made. Midnight Mass came out in late 2021, which means that the actor would have been shooting for the series earlier that year. The Star Wars projects that were also filmed around that time were Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett, so it’s fairly safe to assume that Kohli’s turned-down role was for one of those projects. Still, without the additional details, it’s hard to know what part Kohli had been up for, though it is safe to assume that the role was likely a minor one.

While this news doesn’t mean that Kohli won’t have the chance to appear in future roles within the Star Wars universe, his dreams of playing Ezra Bridger are officially off the table as Eman Esfandi was cast to play the character in Ahsoka. Still, the Midnight Mass star has previously spoken about some of the other characters in the Star Wars universe that he’d like to portray.

Previously in 2022, Kohli told Looper, “The characters that I would love to see on screen were the [Star Wars Expanded Universe] characters that are now legacy characters. Dash Rendar and Kyle Katarn were two characters I was very fond of as a kid. I’d love to see them be brought back into the new ‘Star Wars’ canon. If I’m not working on a Mike Flanagan show and Disney is okay with my social media presence and tweets, then I’d love to play one of those two.”
