Rainn Wilson is constantly recognized for his portrayal as Dwight Schrute on the popular NBC comedy, The Office. The immensely successful series ran for nine seasons, where Wilson did an excellent job playing the beet farmer and proficient paper salesman from 2005 to 2012.
Wilson’s name has become synonymous with Dwight and The Office, though his credits extend far past his time on the workplace mockumentary. He’s starred in numerous feature films and TV shows, including Cooties, Solar Opposites, Dark Winds, The Meg, and Smurfs: The Lost Village. However, despite his time as the iconic Dwight, Wilson tells Collider he wants to be remembered for an entirely different project.

“Listen, obviously most people know me from The Office, and they always will, and that’ll be on my tombstone. My epitaph will be, ‘The guy who played Dwight.’ But I did dozens and dozens of roles before I played Dwight. I’ve played dozens of roles after Dwight. I would say my favorite role, or one I would love to be remembered for, is the movie Super by James Gunn. It was, again, super low budget. We shot that super quick in Shreveport, scenic Shreveport, Louisiana. But I think the combination of humor, darkness, tragedy, insane imagination, my brain gets touched by the finger of God. I think it’s an extraordinary work, and I’m really proud to have been a part of it.”
Rainn Wilson is Crimson Bolt in Super
IFC Midnight
Super may be a strange pick for Rainn Wilson to be remembered for, as the film didn’t necessarily make a splash when it arrived in 2010. The film had an estimated budget of just $2.5 million, grossing $422,000 during its theatrical run. Super follows Frank Darbo (Wilson) as his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, turning the regular Darbo into Crimson Bolt, a crime-fighting hero without any real powers.
Elliot Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Gregg Henry star alongside Wilson in the film. The movie has since become somewhat of a cult classic, like many James Gunn films, with audiences praising its take on a realistic and dark world inhabited by the characters.
Fans shouldn’t expect a sequel or spinoff anytime soon, though Wilson would enjoy reprising his character in some form. However, the actor would love for his audience to learn about Frank Darbo, as he’s a worthy character alongside Dwight Schrute. Audiences can see Wilson in his next feature film, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, arriving on the Roku Channel Friday, Nov. 4.
