Rainn Wilson Star Of The Office Announces His Drastic Name Change To Raise Climate Change Awareness

Rainn Wilson was everyone’s favorite paper salesman when he starred on NBC’s The Office for nine seasons. During his time in the series, he appeared as Recyclops, a superhero celebrating Earth Day and promoting climate change awareness. Now, the actor is taking his obligations off-screen as he’s changed his name to Rainnfall Heatwave Extreme Winter Wilson.

The actor has been vocal about climate change and going green in the past and recently took to Twitter to explain the motivations behind his name change.

Arctic Basecamp, which closely works with Wilson, is a team of scientists raising awareness regarding the climate change crisis. The group forecasts melting events and keeps audiences in the loop with everything at risk, with rising pollution levels and dangerous temperatures. Arctic Basecamp hopes to make the name change a trend as Wilson jumps on board.

You see what happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic. As the polar caps melt, it drives up risks throughout the world, including extreme weather events that affect all of us. So as a cheap little stunt to help save planet Earth, I’ve changed my name on Twitter, Instagram, and even on my fancy writing paper… Because I am an Arctic risk name changer which is going to be a game changer.”

Wilson Created a Documentary Focused on Climate Change

Rainnfall Heatwave Extreme Winter Wilson has always been passionate about the environment, as he previously created the documentary An Idiot’s Guide to Climate Change. In the six-part YouTube docuseries, Wilson travels the globe interviewing various scientists, informing audiences of the dire circumstances certain areas are facing.

The actor realized the best way to keep audiences’ attention is through comedy, as he tells Sierraclub.org. “Humor is the only way to get someone to watch,” he explains. “You have to make it fun and digestible, especially for a place like YouTube or Instagram.” It seems Wilson has found an even better way to get people’s attention, as a full name such as Rainnfall Heatwave Extreme Winter Wilson is bound to get fans talking.
