One of HBO Max’s first original shows, Raised by Wolves, which premiered in 2020 to critical acclaim and significant viewership, was recently canceled by the streamer. Raised by Wolves aired its sophomore season earlier this year, and it was touted by critics as a significant improvement over its predecessor. And the season two finale ended on a massive cliffhanger, leaving fans with several burning questions. While the reason behind the unexpected decision hasn’t been specified, it is reportedly the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, which has caused several other cancelations as well.
Raised by Wolves is created by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) and follows two androids as they raise human children on an unexplored planet after Earth was destroyed by a religious war. Ridley Scott serves as the show’s producer. Raised by Wolves stars Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Travis Fimmel, Niamh Algar, Winta McGrath, and Matias Varela in the lead. The show lost some of its shine in the season one finale, but the brilliant second season more than made up for it.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Raised by Wolves may not be the best thing on TV right now, but the show’s sheer ambition and original sci-fi setting have earned it a devoted fanbase. And as expected, everyone from the cast members to the fans is bummed about the show getting axed.
There is also a Change.org petition and a Reddit call to action group to renew Raised by Wolves that fans of the series should definitely check out.
There Is Still Hope For Raised by Wolves To Find A New Home
HBO Max
According to Abubakar Salim, there is hope for Raised by Wolves to get a season 3, albeit on a different streaming service, as HBO Max is seemingly out of the picture. Per Salim, Ridley Scott and team are hard at work in shopping Raised by Wolves to other homes, and if enough fans speak up, there is a real chance the show could get a revival. Here’s what Salim revealed in his original tweets:
As Salim mentioned, there have been instances in the past when a network suddenly canceled a well-performing series only for it to be acquired by a different network, Lucifer and The Expanse being a few of them. Raised by Wolves creator Aaron Guzikowski revealed to ET in March that he was almost done writing season 3 but confirmed that the show hadn’t been greenlit yet. Considering the future of Raised by Wolves is already mapped out, and the way season two concluded, the fans deserve closure. Hopefully, some other network picks up the show.
“As we speak, Scott Free and the creatives are pushing for the show to be continued in other homes - sharing the reception and pull of the show to other storytellers. There is no denying that we are in a time where the power of a community voice can make change. There’s been many instances we’ve collectively witnessed where this has happened, few that spring to mind is The Expanse, Top Boy as well as with good ol Synder… So I’m asking for action. I see the pure love, passion and questions (too too many) that arise DAILY on Twitter for RBW. I’m now asking that you continue to, and with even more vigour, show that genuine love here, there, and everywhere as we search for that new home.”
