The years-long awaited return of HBO’s genre-bending, surrealistic series Random Acts of Flyness is right around the corner. On Wednesday, filmmaker extraordinaire Terence Nance and HBO finally shared the official trailer and poster for season two of the highly acclaimed series via Twitter, finally offering fans the first look into the next iteration. Unlike last month’s teaser, the almost minute and thirty-second clip provides more insight into the tantalizing “new rituals [and] six dimensions” in store for viewers ahead of the second season.
This season’s official title, Random Acts of Flyness: The Parable of the Pirate and the King, premieres Friday, Dec. 9 at midnight (ET) on HBO Max. There are a total of six episodes, with two episodes airing weekly until Dec. 23. Nance returns as a star in the series alongside rising star Alicia Pilgrim who plays Najja.

Exploring the metaphysics of Black life through avant-garde storytelling, the second season follows Terence (Terence Nance) and Najja (Alicia Pilgrim), a couple working towards healing generational wounds and reintroducing themselves to the ways of their ancestors. Each of the six episodes explores a different dimension while presenting a rich tapestry of audio and visuals to illustrate the spiritual practice of Black liberation.

Terence Nance’s Random Acts of Flyness premiered in August 2018 and immediately took the world by storm. The stimulating sketch comedy captivated audiences with its innovative storytelling that spoke to the positives and negatives of contemporary American life from a Black perspective. It received glowing reviews from critics and won a Peabody Award. The first season provided vital social and cultural commentary on issues such as patriarchy, white privilege and supremacy, Black sensuality, trauma, and death, all encapsulated in strikingly free-flowing, afro-surrealistic storytelling. Season one also includes star-studded guest appearances from Whoopi Goldberg, Lakeith Stanfield, Dominique Fishback, and more.
Artist, musician, and filmmaker multi-hyphenate Terence Nance created Random Acts of Flyness. Nance also executively produces alongside Kelley Robins Hicks, Tamir Muhammad, Jamund Washington, Ravi Nandan, Kishori Rajan, John Hodges, and Chanelle Aponte Pearson. The second season is written by Nance, Mariama Diallo, Nana Mensah, Nelson Nance, Jamund Washington, Kelley Robins Hicks, and Darius C. Monroe.
