Well, it’s that time of year again. The nominations for the 43rd Razzie Awards are now in, and the likes of Blonde, the comic book movie Morbius, and the Disney live action remake of Pinocchio lead the pack. While the Razzie awards are only meant in jest and should be just a bit of fun, they are not without their detractors and have faced controversy over the years. Still, if you can keep your tongue firmly in your cheek, there is humor to be found. Especially when it looks so likely that it will indeed finally be Morbin’ time.
The Netflix outing Blonde from director Andrew Dominik leads the nominations with a total of 8 nods including Worst Picture and Worst Director. The semi-fictionalized biographical movie details the life and career of iconic actress Marilyn Monroe, played in the movie by Ana de Armas. Blonde received highly polarized reviews from critics and audiences alike when it was released back in September, and while de Armas’ performance has been met with praise and earning her a Golden Globe Awards nomination, Blonde’s exploitative nature has been met with much criticism.

The meme-loving Morbius meanwhile has received a total of 5 Razzie nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Actor for Oscar winner Jared Leto. After being delayed over and over, Morbius finally landed in theaters in April 2022, and was quickly met with negative reviews. Playing out like a comic book movie from the early noughties, Morbius bombed at the box office. The Sony Marvel movie though did spark a series of memes, leading the studio to re-release Morbius in June…where it bombed all over again.

Tom Hanks Has Been Nominated for Two Razzies
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
While the likes of Morbius, the stoner comedy Good Mourning, and Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly receiving Razzie nods should not come as too much a surprise, beloved actor and America’s dad Tom Hanks also finds himself on the list this year. Not just for one Razzie, but for two.
Hanks, who has been awarded with two Academy Awards and is well-known as one of Hollywood’s most loved talents, gets the nod for Worst Actor for his performance as Gepetto in Disney’s critically-panned live action remake of Pinocchio, and for Worst Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis. A movie that is expected to be a major Oscar contender.
Other Razzie nominees include Pete Davidson, Sylvester Stallone, and Firestarter star Ryan Kiera Armstrong who, at just 12 years old, should unquestionably have been left out of this and certainly makes one wonder if, despite striving to see the humor, the Razzies should be put out to pasture.
The 43rd Annual Razzie “Winners” will be unveiled, as is now Hollywood tradition, on “Oscar Eve” on Saturday, March 11. You can check out the Razzie nominees in full below.
