It’s going to be just one season for the new comedy series Reboot, at least at Hulu. Deadline reports that the sitcom has been axed by the streaming platform with no plans to make a second season. This follows the show previously premiering on Hulu in September before concluding its 8-episode freshman season in October. It’s unclear as to exactly why the show was canceled, as it had debuted to high viewership with its reviews more on the positive side with an 85% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

The good news for fans is that series creator Steve Levitan isn’t giving up on Reboot. He is reportedly planning on shopping the series to other streamers, and word is that there’s already one potential buyer that’s “asked to read scripts” from the second season.

Levitan served as an executive producer on the series as well alongside John Enbom, Danielle Stokdyk, and Jeff Morton. Keegan-Michael Key served as a producer and was one of the starring cast members alongside Johnny Knoxville, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer, and Paul Reiser. 20th Television is the studio.

Reboot follows the cast members of a sitcom that was popular in the early 2000s. They find themselves getting brought back together when a reboot of their series is pitched by a young writer. When the show was ordered to series at Hulu, Levitan described the show as his “love letter to sitcoms” as well as his “much-needed therapy” after working in TV comedy for three decades. Hulu execs had also spoken about how they saw great potential in the show based on the involvement of the Modern Family creator.

“Steve’s incredible track record speaks for itself," Hulu’s head of scripted content, Jordan Helman, had stated. “Modern Family was brilliant and massively appealing, making millions upon millions of viewers laugh week-after-week and quickly becoming a global sensation. We’re honored that Hulu will be home to Steve’s return to television with Reboot and given our slate of successful comedies such as Only Murders in the Building, Pen15, Ramy and more, we know our viewers will devour this hilariously meta satire.”

You can stream the first and only season of Reboot on Hulu. Time will tell if and when the show gets a second season at another streaming platform, but given how there’s already been some interest shown in the series, there seems to be a fairly good chance of that happening.
