Red Notice didn’t exactly get the seal of approval from critics for its over-the-top generic action plot, but that didn’t seem to matter at all to audiences, as has been the case for many movies recently. In the first 28 days, the movie managed to pull in over 360 million watched hours, putting it ahead of previous Netflix record-holder Bird Box. All in all, the film provides a couple of hours of escapism and that is something that everyone has needed this year. With a dose of humor and some solid performances from the leads, Red Notice certainly had enough going for it to connect with viewers and that is what obviously matters when it comes to possible sequels.

Producer Hiram Garcia touched on a potential sequel in an interview with Collider, and as part of the team bringing Black Adam to screens later this year and working on the next Jumanji movie, it is not surprising that if a sequel does happen it will likely be a few years away. Garcia said:

There is certainly a lot of money been thrown at big star names by streaming platforms right now, and Red Notice is one of the big movies to put on display just how out of touch many critics seem to be with what is popular with the general public. With so many options of what and when to watch, it seems that viewers are more than happy to forego a tightly plotted Oscar-nominated drama for a movie that delivers nothing more than forgettable thrills and energy, which Red Notice, and its stars, has in abundance.

“We do have a really fun blooper reel, but we did like where we ended. In regards to the end credits, with something like this that, in essence, you could view as a franchise starter, we never really like to get ahead of ourselves too much. I think ultimately it’s the fans that dictate if they want a sequel, we’ll be ready to deliver them one. But there was never really a talk about doing some kind of post-credits scene because we always knew how we wanted the movie to end. We knew we wanted to tee up something big, but we didn’t feel that there was really any need for any kind of a post-credits scene. I think we have ideas in our head in terms of where we’d like the story to go, and if the fans respond to the movie the way we’re hoping they will, then it’s on us to be ready to deliver that, and we do have some really good ideas on deck.”
