Just in time for Valentine’s Day in 2023, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher will debut their new rom-com Your Place or Mine at Netflix. The film stars the two as best friends who don’t realize they just may be perfect for one another romantically until after they spend some time living in each other’s houses on opposite sides of the country. The film has been described as a “love letter to single moms everywhere” by one of its two leads.

“Your Place or Mine is kind of a love letter to single moms everywhere,” Witherspoon said, via Netflix. “Even if your life didn’t perfectly work out the way you envisioned, there’s hope and there’s joy, and love can still be found.”

Writer-director Aline Brosh McKenna added, “It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, not just because it’s a love story, but really because there are a lot of different kinds of love in the movie. There’s parental love, friend love, and even love for a city that you live in.”

The official logline for the rom-com is as follows:

Debbie and Peter are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in LA; he thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.

Your Place or Mine Is a Love Letter to Single Moms

Brosh McKenna is a rom-com vet, having co-created Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and written The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, and Morning Glory. Brosh McKenna has also described her new film as a body swapping movie without the actual body swapping. Having the film’s two lead characters switch lives essentially was a good way to have the pair get to know one another better than ever before, and that could be the step that’s needed to facilitate a relationship that they didn’t know was right there for them the whole time.

“They each get to walk a mile in each other’s shoes," the filmmaker explains. “And by doing that, they learn things about each other they never would’ve found out otherwise.”

Brosh McKenna produces the film alongside Witherspoon, Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Lauren Neustadter. Along with Witherspoon and Kutcher, the film also stars Jesse Williams, Zoë Chao, Wesley Kimmel, Griffin Matthews, Rachel Bloom, Shiri Appleby, Vella Lovell, with Tig Notaro, and Steve Zahn.

Your Place or Mine will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 10, 2023.
