Wes Anderson’s latest film, Asteroid City, has finally got a release date: June 23rd, 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Like many of Anderson’s films, it will feature an ensemble cast, but this will be his most extensive star-studded cast yet, with Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Scarlett Johansson, Edward Norton, Margot Robbie, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, and Bryan Cranston, to name a few.

No trailer has been released yet, but we do know that that film is set in the 1950s in a small desert town where a Junior Stargazer event is taking place. Like most Wes Anderson films, it will blend several different genres, including comedy, drama, and romance.

Filming for Asteroid City has already been completed, and Anderson’s next film is in the works: The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. It’s based on the story of the same name by Roald Dahl. Anderson previously adapted a Roald Dahl story in the 2009 stop-motion film Fantastic Mr. Fox. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in the upcoming movie, which will be released on Netflix. However, a specific date has not been set.

Bill Murray Was Recast Due to a COVID-19 Diagnosis

Bill Murray, a frequent collaborator of Anderson who has appeared in several of his movies, was supposed to be in Asteroid City but had to be replaced after contracting COVID-19 just before filming began. He was replaced by Steve Carell, the comedic actor well-known for his role as Michael Scott in the NBC sitcom The Office. Carell has taken on more dramatic roles in recent years, and Anderson’s unique storytelling could give him a chance to show off his acting chops in both a serious and silly role.

Wes Anderson’s most recent film, The French Dispatch, was released in October 2021 with positive reviews and excellent box office success. Many actors and actresses from The French Dispatch will appear again in Asteroid City, including Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Willem Dafoe, and Edward Norton.

Directed, written, and produced by Wes Anderson, Asteroid City will premiere in select theaters on June 16th, 2023, before receiving a wider release on June 23rd. Roman Coppola co-wrote the film with Anderson, and Jeremy Dawson and Steven Rales serve as co-producers. In addition to the cast mentioned above, other actors and actresses include Jason Schwartzman, Hong Chau, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Jeffrey Wright, Liev Schreiber, Tony Revolori, Matt Dillon, Fisher Stevens, and Rita Wilson. Focus Features will distribute the film.
