With pointy teeth and a deathly stare, Nicolas Cage looms over Nicholas Hoult in the first poster for Renfield. Released courtesy of Universal Pictures via social media, the poster has been released alongside the first trailer for the horror-comedy, which finds Cage’s lord of the vampires tormenting his devoted servant, Renfield. Check out the new poster for Renfield below.
In Renfield, evil doesn’t span eternity without a bit of help. In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, The X-Men franchise, The Menu) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he could figure out how to end his co-dependency.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The LEGO Batman Movie) from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (Ghosted series, Rick & Morty series), and based on an original idea by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman, Renfield finds the lesser-known R. M. Renfield, who first appeared in Bram Stoker’s 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula, suddenly finding a new lease on life in modern-day New Orleans after falling in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty but perennially aggressive traffic cop.
The poster offers another look at Cage as The Count, a role that the actor is hugely excited about and has been inspired at least in part by the great performances that came before him. “I thought that I could do something with my own enthusiasm about Bram Stoker’s book, as well as Christopher Lee’s performance in the Hammer films, as well as Langella’s performance, as well as Oldman’s performance, as well as Lugosi’s performance,” Cage explained. “I wanted to embrace elements of each of them, but also Orlok and Max Schreck; I wanted to get some of the German expressionism and body language in it.”
