The T-Virus will infect Netflix in July. On Thursday, the streamer released a trio of teaser posters for Resident Evil, a live-action series based on the survival horror video games. They include the official release date, revealing that the series will start streaming on July 14, 2022. You can check out those posters below.
This series serves as the first live-action series in the Resident Evil franchise and is unconnected to the films by Paul W.S. Anderson along with last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Albert Wesker moves into more of a central role in the series with Lance Reddick (John Wick series) in the part with the show following his two daughters as well, both of whom are new to the franchise. Along with Reddick, the show stars Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nunez. Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery are also featured.
The official logline reads: “Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”
Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) serves as writer and showrunner of Resident Evil. Dabb also executive produced with writer Mary Leah Sutton and Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film. Constantin Film CEO Martin Moszkowicz is also producing.

The Netflix Resident Evil Series Has No Connection to the Movies
Sony Pictures Releasing
Just to be clear, this is a new Resident Evil story that is a standalone series, totally separate from the previous live-action adaptations. That includes the long-running movie series with Milla Jovovich’s Alice from director Paul W.S. Anderson. Last year, the franchise was rebooted with the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, but as it performed below expectations, it’s unclear if that movie will get a sequel.
For now, all attention is on the upcoming Resident Evil series. Star Lance Reddick has addressed the complaints that some Twitter critics have had that his Wesker will be different from the others due to the change in the character’s skin color for the new series, and the actor made the point that this is simply a new, standalone story featuring a character that’s inspired by Wesker from the video games. In any case, he comes into the project with great respect for the source material and is happy to interact with the fans.
“For the most part, the Albert Wesker that I’m playing is not the guy from the games,” Reddick said, per Express.co.uk. “Rather, he is based on a guy from the games. Wesker seemed like he had a small role in one or two of the movies, so I came to the role without a backstory. I’m awake enough to know that Resident Evil is a huge property and so in that regard, I was really excited to interface with the fan base.”
The series will start streaming on Netflix on July 14, 2022.
