Fans have made their choice regarding who should be cast as the new Rick and Morty following Adult Swim’s decision to cut ties with co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland. While a few suggestions have been made, two names sit at the top of the pile: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia pair Danny DeVito and Charlie Day.

Danny DeVito and Charlie Day are by far one of the most beloved on-screen duos of all time thanks to their roles as Charlie Kelly and Frank Reynolds in the hit, long-running sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And frankly, it really isn’t difficult to image how good they would be in the roles of Rick and Morty.

With Justin Roiland now out of the Rick and Morty picture, and with confirmation that the title roles will be recast, fans have other ideas as well for who should take over as the self-destructive mad scientist and his meek grandson.

Justin Roiland was recently charged and arrested with felony domestic battery and false imprisonment in Orange County, California, following accusations from an unnamed woman who Roiland was reportedly dating. In the wake of these legal issues, the voice actor, writer, and co-creator of Rick and Morty has now been dropped by studio Adult Swim, who released the following statement.

“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” the studio said of the decision to cut ties with Roiland. “Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7.”

Reports since have now confirmed that the title roles of Rick and Morty, roles that Roiland has voiced since the show began back in 2013, will be recast and that the adventures of Rick and Morty will go on until at least Season 10. “Sources say Rick and Morty is set to continue, with Roiland’s voice roles to be recast,” reports have revealed. “Though Roiland will always be credited as co-creator, fellow co-creator Dan Harmon will now be the lone showrunner. The show is locked in through season 10.”

The sixth season of Rick and Morty aired at the end of last year, concluding in December, and once again follows Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith as they embark on all manner of inter-dimensional adventures. A seventh season of Rick and Morty is currently in development and is expected to debut sometime in 2023.
