It’s almost time to return to the world of Arda and Middle-earth in Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It’s been five years since the series was initially announced in 2017, and the show finally had its exclusive red carpet premiere last night on Aug 15, 2022. The Rings of Power will be available worldwide next month on its official debut date, Sept 1. The series stars Morfydd Clark, Nazanin Boniadi, Lenny Henry, Peter Mullan, Benjamin Walker, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Robert Aramayo.

Payne and McKay Reiterate Their 5-Season Plan

The Rings of Power was always planned to be five seasons, with reports circulating in 2018 confirming the length. Yesterday, Aug 15, showrunner JD Payne and Patrick McKay wanted to reiterate their plan, assuring fans they already have their final shot of the series in mind.

Fans should rest easy knowing Payne and McKay have mapped out their vision for the entire series; however, audiences will have to wait for the premiere on Sept 1 to decide whether The Rings of Power is worthy of the Lord of the Rings name.

“From the beginning we had in our writer’s room a couple different boards. There was a character board, there was a season board, then there was a series board. And Tolkien mapped out so much of it that we basically, you know, took what he did and said ‘Okay I think this is a good place for Season 1. This is Season 2, Season 3,’ so we literally know what the last shot of the show is going to be.”
