We now have our first look at Academy Award nominee and Southpaw star Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming Road House remake. Standing alongside MMA superstar Conor McGregor, these first look images come courtesy of Twitter user @PhotoAmy33 and find the pair filming a splishy-splashy action sequence in the waters of the Dominican Republic. You can check out the images below.

Released in 1989, Road House follows the late, great Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a “cooler” who begins working at a newly refurbished roadside bar where his job is to kick out any good-for-nothing drunkards or those looking for a brawl. While protecting the bar, Dalton soon finds himself protecting the small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman the only way he knows how, with kicks, punches, and headbutts.

The remake will take major inspiration from the original, while changing a few details along the way. Thus, Road House follows Gyllenhaal as Dalton, this time is a former UFC fighter, who takes a job as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys. Much like his 80s predecessor, Dalton “soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise,” the official logline for the Road House remake reads.

While the original Road House was met with largely mixed reviews upon release, the movie has since garnered a cult following thanks to its B-movie shenanigans and reliably charismatic central performance from Swayze. Even so, Road House is a movie that does seem prime for a remake, and with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role, the project is certainly an intriguing one.

These images mark our first look at Conor McGregor, who makes his acting debut in Road House. While not much has been revealed regarding his role in proceedings, it will no doubt be equally entertaining to see either Gyllenhaal and McGregor throw down or work together. Either way is sure to result in some action movie exhilaration.
