Road House Finds Jake Gyllenhaal Stepping Into the Patrick Swayze Role
Netflix
Released in 1989, Road House is now considered something of an action movie classic and follows the late, great Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a cooler who begins working at a newly refurbished roadside bar. Assigned with getting rid of the riff-raff, Dalton is all about being nice and ending violence before it starts. Of course, when it does start, Dalton will be the one to finish it. Not content with simply beating up drunks and thugs, Dalton soon finds himself the hero of a small town after going up against a corrupt businessman.
The Road House remake will take major inspiration from the treasured original while making a few changes along the way. Jake Gyllenhaal will star as Dalton, who this time is a former UFC fighter, and takes a job as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys. Much like his ’80s predecessor, Dalton “soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise,” the official logline for Road House reads.
Directed by Doug Liman (American Made, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Road House is written by Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry (Doc Savage). The project is produced by Joel Silver via his Silver Pictures, with JJ Hook (6 Underground, The Lost City), Alison Winter (The Wall, Chaos Walking), and Aaron Auch (Orphan, The Losers) on board as executive producers.
