Rob Zombie’s reboot of The Munsters has been moving along steadily towards completion, with the film expected to hit Peacock later this year with a possible theatrical release involved. Or at least that is one possibility. New reports by Bloody Disgusting have suggested that the new movie could have been sold to Netflix and will premiere there instead. While the information is currently being treat as a rumor, it will likely not be too long before the truth is confirmed one way or the other.
The Munsters will see Rob Zombie helming a movie that he believes he was made to bring to life. As a long-time fan of the franchise, the horror master is toning down his love of blood and gore to bring something more family friendly to screens in his reimagining of the classic TV series. Featuring regular Zombie collaborators Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie as Herman and Lily Munster respectively, the movie’s production has been recorded and shared every step of the way by its director on his Instagram, and he doesn’t seem to be stopping that anytime soon.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
There has been no release date for The Munsters announced yet, which may or may not be down to the movie changing hands. It does seem wherever the move ends up making its debut, it will be sometime later this year, and while Halloween would fit with the mood of the film, with shooting still ongoing it may be a tall order to have everything done by then. In the meantime, there is plenty of time for more behind the scenes photos and video to be shared by Zombie, as well as a trailer coming sometime in the near future.
Rob Zombie Has Brought Some Original Stars Back To The Franchise
NBCUniversal Television Distribution
As well as breathing new life into The Munsters, Zombie is bringing in some veteran stars as well as original Munsters actors to really make this a special return of the spooky family from Mockingbird Lane. Last week it was revealed that Pat Priest would be reprising her role of Marilyn, and she joins Richard Brake, Dee Wallace, Sylvester McCoy, Jorge Garcia, Cassandra Peterson and potentially another original cast returner in Butch Patrick, who has been photographed with Rob Zombie on set earlier in production. All in all, though, it seems to be a unanimous belief that there is no one more committed to making The Munsters a real event than Zombie, an opinion that was previously shared by Daniel Roebuck.
“There’s not a better person in Hollywood, or anywhere else on the planet, who should be making The Munsters movie other than Rob Zombie. It’s gone through the hands of so many other people and I know Rob wasn’t just looking for something to attach his coattails to. He’s a huge fan of it and being a life-long fan approaching this material it really is as good as it gets. I know Sheri, and nobody works harder than Sheri Zombie. I’ve written a part for her in a movie I wrote and directed, as well as another film I co-wrote and co-directed, so that’s what I think of her talent. I think she’s terrific and I absolutely love working with her.”
