Just in time for Christmas, Rob Zombie has revealed another image of his cast of The Munsters celebrating the festive holiday. Featuring the family appropriately decorating their tree with skulls, the picture gives us a very good look at the reboot’s cast: Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa.

“From all of us down at 1313 Mockingbird Lane we wish you a scary Christmas,” Zombie writes in the caption. Roebuck adds, “On behalf of Grandpa, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and healthy Holiday season.”

There’s no indication that this will be a holiday-themed reboot. Most likely, Zombie and his Munsters are just taking some time to celebrate the occasion with the production still underway in Budapest. Having the Munster family celebrate Christmas can also be seen as a fun nod to the franchise. One rebooted version of the family rung in the holiday with the television movie The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas in 1996.

It’s also clear that director Rob Zombie is putting all kinds of Easter eggs into The Munsters, so there’s no telling what all we’ll be seeing in the film. In another photo shared to Instagram, Zombie revealed another look at Herman Munster’s wardrobe which includes his leather jacket that says “The Punk Rods” on the back. Fans of the original series will recognize the jacket from the popular episode “Hot Rod Herman,” when Fred Gwynne wore something similar.

The attention to detail Zombie has been putting into this project has been incredible. Making this reboot as faithful of an adaptation as possible meant having 1313 Mockingbird Lane built from the ground up, and all throughout the process, the filmmaker shared updates of its progress. Not satisfied with just making the Munster home, Zombie also went ahead and had all of the neighboring houses on Mockingbird Lane built as well. It all goes to show just how seriously he is taking this project.

“When he first called me about it, I honestly thought I was being Punk’d or something,” Dan Roebuck said of his casting as Grandpa in a Horror Geek Life interview. “My wife Tammy and I were driving to a wedding. She was actually wearing a Lily Munster shirt in the car when Rob’s name pops up on my phone. She and I looked at each other and, let’s be honest, when rockstars call, you answer. He’s a busy man, and I don’t just call him up to chat. He told me what he was doing and asked what I thought about doing it. I couldn’t believe it was real! If it wasn’t, I may have driven off the road and into a tree. After it sank in, I had the epiphany that I’d been preparing for this role my whole life. I’m in this movie because it’s God’s will, it’s where he wants me to be.”

There have been reports of The Munsters getting a day-and-date release in theaters and on Peacock in 2022, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Zombie. For now, fans can keep an eye on the filmmaker’s Instagram for continued updates.
